Ana Mercedes Hoyos.
Stone Thrower
by Enrique Grau
"Ana Mercedes the artist who never loses her orientation, despite the apparent and continued changes. And one follows her and follows her.
Her sunflowers made in concrete, as one who constructs a beautiful puzzle. The beach, the women form palisades who sell fruits. At first, sight they are detail of fruits, painting on dresses, the same old knife, the same old watermelon.
But analyze the abstract concept, analyze the form concept; the decorative of Matiz and the corporeity of Piero Della Francesca embracing. And Ana Mercedes continues so buoyant. Creating intelligent, aggressive and beautiful works. A real stone Thrower!"
Profile
Born in Bogota, Colombia in 1942 to architect Manuel Jose
Hoyos, she studied art at a very young age, often accompanying her father to European museums to learn art history.
Educated at the University of the Andes and the National University in Bogota, she also studied privately with Luciano Jaramillo, Juan Antonio Roda, Arming Villegas and Marta Traba. Basing her work on the complex reality of Colombian culture, she is equally expressive in a variety of media. Through her painting, sculpture, print-making, collage, photography and textiles runs a motif of saturated color, magic and nature.
