Ana Mercedes Hoyos is one of the most outstanding figures in present day Colombian art. Her work has been the subject of three previous book s, received a wide critical commentary and figured in publications like Art News, Newsweek, Time and Art in America.

In recent years she has received awards and invitations from the government of Japan and the United States.
As the Colombian art critic Eduardo Serrano notes, “Ana Mercedes Hoyos not only reveals the mediation of photography and have an open air setting, they are also a testimony about the life, values and aesthetic predilections of Afro-Colombians, an ethnic group which has made a valuable contribution to the country's culture.”
