■About the Artists

FRANCISCO MEJIA-GUINAND (Colombia)

1964 Born in Bogota, Colombia. The eldest son of Francisco Mejia Gomez and
Gladys Guinard Salazar.
1965 His family moves to New York.

1995 Travels to New York. Participates in a collective show in the Gallery of
the Museo de Arte Moderno of Bogota.
1996 Teaches a seminar on “painted architectures, projected paintings” in
the Department of History and Theory of the Universidad de los Andes
in Bogota and works in the same university's office of physical planning.
1998 Participates in a collective show in C&C Contemporary Art,Chicago,
U.S.A.
1999 Holds his first solo exhibition in the Galeria Diners in Bogota
2000 Participates in the collective shows “Exordio” (Exordium) at the Galeria
Diners, Bogota and the Museo de Arte Moderno, Bucaramanga, and
“Grandes Artistas en Pequeño”(Big Artists in a small format), in the
Galeria Diners, Bogota.
2001 Participates in the show “La Nueva Pintura Colombiana” ( New Colombian
Painting), a traveling exhibition organized by the ColombianMinistry of
Foreign Relations and shown in the seat of Unesco in Paris; the Gallery
of the National Theater at the Museum of Art of Constanta, Romania;
and the Cultural Center of the Mayoralty of Athens, Greece. Two of his
large-format works become part of the collection of the Colombian
Ministry of Foreign Relations.
2002 The Felipe Grimberg Gallery invites him to participate in the Miami Art
Fair; the Galeria Diners of Bogota holds a solo exhibition of his recent
work; Villegas Editores publishes his book Francisco Mejia-Guinard,
with an essay by Ana Maria Escallon.
2003 Washington D.C, "Francisco Mejía-Guinand, The Order of an Inner World"
Comprehensive Retrospective the first in USA and a major survey of
his work featuring ten years of the entirety career. This first comprehensive
overview of Mejía-Guinand 's Drawings, Paintings, a body of work that
spans ten years of work, from 1993 to 2003. Organized chronologically,
it reveals the development of Mejía-Guinand 's work.
