We will hold the 9th solo exhibition “Mother TERESA’s portrait”, as homage to the canonization of Mother Teresa by photographer Tsunehiko Momose from September 1st. to 6th., 2016 at PROMO-ARTE’s art exhibition hall.

At the end of last year a news regarding canonization of Mother Teresa got abroad from Vatican City to all over the world, and on the 4th of September 2016 will be held the canonization ceremony at the Vatican City. It has not been twenty years since Mother Teresa died (1997) when she was 87 years old.

In this exhibition you can appreciate Mother Teresa’s portrait photo printed on handmade Japanese paper “Washi”. These works has been produced with the traditional technique using brush and emulsion in darkroom. You should not miss such a great photos printed on Washi paper.

Momose is a freelance photographer and today it is well known his portrait photo works with over 30 years of experience in this field. After graduating from the Visual Communication Design at Musashino Art University, he traveled alone all over the world and kept on focusing on the human life more than landscapes. He has taken portrait photos of many celebrities in different country in the world.

The major exhibitions at PROMO-ARTE are: “The Prayer of Mother Teresa” in 2010 where photos stocked since 1995 were shown and celebrated the publication of the 100th anniversary of Mather Teresa’s birth; “What is happiness?” was taken place in 2011 where he showed Amish people and their landscapes shot in Pennsylvania and also New York streets as a symbol of modern civilization, and more.

Moreover, we plan to run a special program: "Photographer Momose takes a portrait photo of you”.  He will create an “undisguised and fabulous” piece by shooting a really gentle and sharp moment of you with his camera.

JAPAN MOTHER TERESA

In this photo taken in February, 1995 and released by Japanese
photographer Tsunehiko Momose, the late Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa gives communion to the faithful at a mass in Kolkata, India.
Momose, who was given a special privilege by her to photograph a mass while covering her institution, opens a six-day photo exhibition on her including this photo in Tokyo, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 to mark her canonization by Pope Francis in Vatican on Sunday, Sept. 4, the eve of the 19th anniversary of her death. ■About the Artists





■Tsunehiko Momose

Born in Nagano in September of 1947.
Learned Visual Communication Design at Musashino Art University. From student’s time, he visited to Europe, the Middle East and American Continent during several years. After graduating from the university, he traveled alone all over the world and kept on focusing on the human life more than landscapes.

He had a solo exhibition “Picture postcard Paris” at Promo Arte Gallery in April of 2010, and “The Prayer of Mother Teresa” in August where photos stocked since 1995 were shown and celebrated the publication of the 100th anniversary of Mather Teresa’s birth. The exhibition “What is happiness?” was taken place in 2011 where he showed Amish people and their landscapes shot in Pennsylvania and also New York streets as a symbol of modern civilization. A lot of people visited and they supported his works.

1991 “Mushoku Yujo” in Aoyama Photo Gallery in Tokyo
This exhibition was featured on the image of people living in Fez, an ancient city of Morocco. The exhibition name “Mushoku Yujo” was titled by Shuntaro Tanigawa, a poet who traveled with him in Morocco.
1993 Published “Portraits of children” in Kinokuniya book store (joint work with Shuntaro Tanigawa). He looked closely the creative world by taking monochromes and tried to print them on Japanese paper. During those days he focused on “tattoo” as his theme during several years.
1994 “Tatouages-portraits” in Gallery Kuki in Paris
He tried to print monochromes on Japanese paper and colored by technique of traditional Japanese painting.
1995 Took photos of Mother Teresa in Calcutta in India.
Photo exhibition “Portrait tattoo” in Atagoyama Gallery in Ginza.
Photo exhibition “Portrait Fez” in Asakawa Gallery in Yamanashi.
1996 Took photos of Barbara Samsung who declared herself to be a HIV-infected and made an impression on people.
1997 “Portrait Barbara Samsung” at Sotetsu-Joinus in Yokohama.
1998 “Love and prayer Mother Teresa” at LOGOS Gallery in Parco Art Shibuya.
“Love and prayer Mother Teresa” at Shiryokuen Gallery in Kanazawa, Ishikawa
“Love and prayer Mother Teresa” at Ginza Church Gallery.
1999 Took photos of Fuku Akino, a female painter who was awarded prize of order of culture in Odisha, India.
2002 “Mother Teresa” at “Espace Culturel Bertin Poiree” in Paris.
2003 Shot a Ebizo, a Kabuki actor for a lady’s magazine “and Ebizo” during one year when he succeeded to the name Ebizo from Shinnosuke Ichikawa.
2005 Published “and Ebizo” in Sekaibunkasha (written by Tomomi Muramatsu)
“Portraits in Paris, a trilogy of nude” at Galerie wa2 in Aoyama, Tokyo.
2007 “ground 0 + Mother Teresa” at Le Meridien Gallery21
Took photos of a novel “Searching for your voice” written by Kotaro Sawaki published on Yomiuri newspaper.
